A NEW UPSCALE VINTAGE CLOTHING STORE IN OVIEDO MALL
OVIEDO, Florida — Duckie’s Vintage Boutique is a new store in Oviedo Mall, with a Grand Opening celebration on Saturday, May 15 from Noon-4pm. The store’s motto is, “Fashions for those who were born in the wrong decade.” The store specializes in vintage (pre-1999) clothing, but will also carry unique designer, modern, and handmade items.
Celebrating an eighties theme in its design and nomenclature, Duckie’s extensive collection of vintage apparel stretches from the Roaring Twenties to Nineties Grunge, with plenty of eclectic stops in between. In addition to clothing, the store also offers a curated selection of vintage books, music, movies, technology, and novelties. Creative merchandising directors Cyn Sellards and Sarah Fanok intentionally designed the store with eighties and nineties mall culture in mind. Store owner James Brendlinger donated his enormous collection of PEZ dispensers and Lava Lamps to the store’s kitschy retail collection.
Interactive elements of the store include a social media photoshoot area, a community record player where guests can play DJ with the store’s collection of 45’s, a two-player Ms PacMan machine fresh from a classic Pizza Hut, and an Atari 2600 play area. In addition, a full-time costume designer works in the store, designing and creating new garments.
The store was created as a spin-off of Penguin Point Costumes, the costume rental shop in Oviedo Mall managed by Kay Gonzales. All sales from Duckie’s Vintage benefit educational theater projects at Penguin Point Educational Theater, the adjacent non-profit performing arts school and community theater.
The 5000-square-foot retail space is located in the west end of the mall, near Dillards and Penguin Point, and just a few steps away from other Oviedo Mall clothing stores like Loft Outlet and Sassy’s Bridal.
